The General Lee Launches at the 2017 Detroit Autorama

The General Lee is one of the most iconic cars in television history thanks to the high-flying shenanigans the Duke boys would get into. It was the star of Dukes of Hazard and almost every episode the bright orange 1969 Dodge Charger would launch off a massive jump and somehow land on flat ground and drive away. It was fascinating, and I’d be willing to bet any gearhead that grew up in the ’80s and ’90s did everything they could to not miss a single second of the action.

In reality, almost none of the cars used to film those iconic jumps ever drove away. More times than not, they had to be hauled away on a flatbed because they were more or less a bucket of bolts after the violent landings. With that being said, you can imagine the surprise on everyone’s face when a replica General Lee pulled off a massive jump at the 2017 Detroit Autorama! And to pay tribute to the many Chargers that were sacrificed, this particular replica also jumped and landed on flat ground, only it was asphalt! Let’s just say the results are nothing short of spectacular.
